Interview: Ascendia

Ascendia_Band_PhotoHey guys thanks for taking the time to talk with us. For those who aren’t familiar with you and your music, can you tell us a little about Ascendia?

Absolutely! We are a four piece band from Toronto Canada playing symphonic metal/hard rock. We released our debut album The Lion and the Jester in 2015 and will now be embarking on our first major tour with Circus Maximus this September!

Your debut album The Lion and The Jester came out over a year ago. Have you been happy with the success it has had?

Yes we have been very happy. Considering we are an independent band with no label support the album went far beyond expectations. This includes sales and just the enormous feedback received from everyone.

Recently you released a video for the song “Remember Me” off The Lion and The Jester. Why did you choose that song to do a video for? What was the inspiration behind the video and the song itself?

[embedplusvideo height=”558″ width=”940″ editlink=”http://bit.ly/2bR9gCB” standard=”http://www.youtube.com/v/PmGlqeda3mU?fs=1″ vars=”ytid=PmGlqeda3mU&width=940&height=558&start=&stop=&rs=w&hd=0&autoplay=0&react=1&chapters=&notes=” id=”ep5396″ /]

We basically asked the fans what they wanted, and a majority of them wanted to see a video for “Remember Me”.  It was really that simple! We are lucky enough that our small but growing fan base is very vocal when we ask for their opinions and feedback! In terms of the inspiration of the video, we wanted to do a winter themed video since we are from Canada and everyone’s perception of Canada is that it’s a gigantic snow storm! So we went with that and decided to make the story about a basic relationship between two people.  However, the lyrics themselves were actually inspired by the biblical story of Jesus and Judas and the epic betrayal.

Acendia_poster_2 (1)Can we expect any more videos for songs off The Lion and The Jester?

We have now released 3 music videos and a lyric video from The Lion and the Jester, so I think we are done for now. We are working on album two and focusing in on doing some bigger tours at the moment.

When can we expect a new album?

We are hoping to be hitting the studio by February/March , which means the next album could have a release date in 2017.

In September you will be playing some shows with Circus Maximus? Is this your first time playing in the United States? Any particular city that you are looking forward to playing in?

Yes we are on tour with Circus Maximus and we are incredibly excited about it. Our American debut will be the first date of the tour in Chicago at Reggie’s. We would have never guessed Chicago would be the very first city, but we are damn excited about it! In all honesty we are excited to play in every city. We play ProgPower in Atlanta and are pumped for that as well. Atlanta is quite beautiful!

You also will be playing the ProgPower  Festival in Atlanta in September. Is this your first festival? What expectations do you have? 12032082_907906835913003_6155856357965560031_n

It is actually the second festival we have played. We opened on the Sumerian Records stage at Rockstar Mayhem Festival. However, seeing as we got a chance to watch ProgPower last year, it became apparent that this festival is very unique and unlike any festival we have attended. The people are all there to support the bands big or small. It’s a community of the most loyal people you will ever find. We can’t wait to be on stage on September 9th.

From a fan’s standpoint what artists are you looking forward to seeing at Power Prog?

We are especially looking forward to Devin Townsend, Scar Symmetry, and Dragonforce!

Any final thoughts or words of wisdom?

Thank you for the interview and we looking forward to meeting a whole bunch of new fans on our tour this September!
