When industrial music blew up in the 90s, the point was to be anti-establishment, anti-mainstream, anti-melodic or, to simplify, anti-pop. Fast forward almost 30 years, and the genre has evolved tremendously. Originally acoustically harsh and amelodic, the genre has branched out into various sub-genres–“dark ambient, power electronics, Japanoise, neofolk, electro-industrial, electronic body music, industrial hip hop, industrial rock, industrial metal, martial industrial, power noise, and witch house” (Wikipedia)–and many fit into mainstream genres while others don’t. In the case of Aesthetic Perfection, Industrial music is melded with pop; it would seem contradictory but it works in the most delicious ways. Headed up by Daniel Graves, Aesthetic Perfection has infused the intensity of the genre with a sly pop sensuality that is matched only by the front-man’s intense stare in his press photos. The newest release, Ebb and Flow, pushes that sensuality to its limits with the pulsating cover of the N*SYNC hit single, “Bye Bye Bye.” So check out the tracks–we recommend on repeat with a solid pair of headphones–and grab a copy of the EP online HERE!
“Ebb and Flow is another step towards realizing my vision of creating aggressive, raw, honest pop music.” – Daniel Graves
